Happy Blogiversary to Write of the Middle!

On 4 November 2016 (tomorrow) it will be 2 years since Write of the Middle went live

It feels longer than 2 years and that is most likely because I have actually been blogging for 4 years, having started my first blog on 19 September 2012.  It was called MinsMash and was set up originally purely as a place to share my 365 Grateful photos, but it morphed into much more than that over the 2+ years it was active.  When I first started blogging, I had no idea about blogging or how to blog.  I didn’t even know there was a blogosphere.  I did read a few blogs but that was the extent of my ‘blog’ knowledge.  Thankfully I decided to set up my first blog on WordPress, the free version, and thus began my learning journey about blogs, social media, the blogosphere and more!

Write of the Middle was a lovely fresh start on a self hosted platform which provides me with much more flexibility and creative control.  I have shared lots of SNAPS, discussed many of life’s CRACKLES and talked often about how we can work towards a more ZEN life.  The blog is and always will be evolving as I endeavour to find my own unique place out there in the blogosphere. Write of the Middle is just one humble little blog amongst the masses that are out there now, but I love it and I really do hope that some of the words I write here are worth something to someone, even just one person.

The blog is many things to me, including:

  • a creative outlet – for my photography and of course for writing and expressing myself
  • a platform for sharing things I have learnt about life during my 52 years, with the hope of helping or at least informing others
  • a form of connectivity – providing a feeling of belonging as part of the Australian blogosphere and finding like-minded people
  • a way to meet new people, both online and offline
  • an environment which encourages learning all the time – by doing research for posts; by the necessity of back-end requirements of running a blog; as part of the blogosphere and learning about the world of blogging; by networking and learning from others
  • provides a platform on which I can connect with and support chosen charities, brands, businesses and people that I believe in
  • provides a sense of purpose (plus so much more)

For those of you who have been with me since the beginning back in September 2012, and those of you who have joined me since the launch of Write of the Middle on 4 November 2014, and all of you that I’ve met along the way, both online and offline, your support and friendship is everything to me.  Thank you!

wine time, blogiversary,

CHEERS!  Happy 2nd Blogiversary Write of the Middle and thank you to all of you for your wonderful friendship and support!

Ciao for now,

Congratulations Min, that is a fantastic achievement. I think anyone who gets past the two year mark deserves a medal! We do persevere through a jungle of other blogs out there in the blogosphere always striving to make ours better by learning and tweeking. I think this challenge alone is the reason that I keep going. Plus, like you I love doing it!

Thank you Kathy! I agree – it sure does require perseverance and determination and you have to love doing it! It’s hard work so lucky we love doing it. 🙂 xo

Happy blogaversary Min! I was like you when I starters in that I had no idea how much of a community existed around writing online. I’m glad I found it!

I remember meeting with you before you decided to start blogging. I was getting ready to leave Brisbane and you were keen for advice from memory. I have to admit I always struggle with that… usually I just suggest people decide on something sustainable and go from there. As you’d know, many start and stop or have high expectations, but…. it’s hard work in the long run.

    Happy anniversaries! x

Thanks Deb. Yes! We had lunch somewhere on Oxford Street at Bulimba! Both of us launching into a new, changed phase of life! Here I am 4+ years later still blogging, as are you! Determined little buggars aren’t we?! lol xo

Happy Blogaversary, Min! Like you, I’ve gotten so much out of blogging over the years. Time flies too! It’s nice to have the blog as a record of everything.

Congratulations Min. I can relate to much of your story about your past corporate experience and how blogging has helped you heal. Today marks two years since my first post also! I was terrified when I hit publish. Absolutely terrified! I find it easier now but I’m only really starting to find ‘my voice’ after being a science/education writer for many years. It’s been such a challenge for me to break free of what I call the ‘stuffy writing shackles’ and just be myself. I love that there is always so much to learn through blogging. The most surprising outcome though is what I am learning about myself! It’s been a journey of self discovery and growth and like you, I am loving it. x PS I think it was on your insta that I joked ‘don’t you come the raw prawn with me’? Lol. I was patting myself on the back for that one 🙂

    • Reply Min November 4, 2016 at 7:53 am

Thanks Shauna! It was actually a bit over 4 years and 2 months ago that I hit publish on my first ever bog post! I was terrified too! Also – it is such a daggy and embarassing post! lol I had no idea what I was doing. When I started Write of the Middle, 2 years ago today I had a bit over 2 years blogging experience under my belt which helped enormously. I am always learning though. There is so much to learn! Yes it does take a while to learn to write conversationally – which is how you need to with a blog – like you are talking to someone. I also totally agree that the most surprising outcome from blogging is what we learn about ourselves. It’s quite incredible isn’t it?! I remember that raw prawn comment! haha SO it was you! lol 🙂 xo

I knew you back then too…and I congratulate you on your blogiversary. Mine is December 2010 but I have morphed and changed the blog around so much that I am not counting! Your blog has always been a high quality read, Min and I appreciated being a guest blogger a while back. Many good wishes for the future. Denyse x

Cheers Min! We’ve been blogging along together for 4 years now – I started my blog in November 2012 as Redland City Living before rebranding in January 2014 to Middle Aged Mama. I can’t believe it’s been 2 years already since you started Write of the Middle – I think the time has flown!

    • Reply Min November 5, 2016 at 11:08 am

Those 4 years have flown by haven’t they Janet?! Interesting how we both rebranded in 2014 but not surprising really when you think about how much learning is involved in the whole blogging experience. Yes 2 years already since I started WOTM. Time is getting scarily fast these days! xo

Congrats on your bloggy birthday – you started blogging almost exactly the same time as I did. I also did a major blog update around 2 years ago (in time for Problogger 2014) but I’m afraid I really need the renewal and rebrand that you’ve given your blog recently. It is looking smashing, as are you in that photo – what a gorgeous shot. X

    • Reply Min November 8, 2016 at 9:10 pm

Thanks Kathy! Yes I thought we started blogging around the same time. I did my rebranding etc in time for Problogger 2015 (the first one I’ve been to). THanks for the compliment on the blog and the photo of me – that’s so nice of you! Good luck with your bloggy rebrand – can’t wait to see what you do! 🙂 xo
