Two Pacific Black Ducks on the pond at Roma Street Parkland, Brisbane. Taken in October 2014.
If you read my last post, without knowing all the details, you’d know that things are really tough for my family right now.
And so the universe sent me babies! A beautiful mother duck and her nine ducklings.
They are Pacific Black Ducks.
They help to distract my mind.
They are cute and peaceful to watch.
I watch them in the mornings as I have my morning cuppa.
I am in awe of the attentiveness and protectiveness of the mother duck for her babies.
I am amazed at how close the ducklings stick to their mother and how obedient they are. One word (err quack) from her and they obey immediately.
The ducklings make me laugh with some of their funny little antics and attempts to get out of the pool.
I am in awe of how fast those ducklings can swim. At times they are honestly like little lightning bolts!
I am, as usual, soothed by nature, as my favourite quote by John Burroughs suggests.
So during this hardest time in my life ever, this gift of nature from the universe to me is what I’m lovin’ about life right now.
I wondered if there was some meaning or symbolism (relative to ‘ducks’) to this visit and so I turned to Dr Google to find out. Here’s a sample of what I found.
From Spirit-Animals.com
If a Duck has waddled across your path.
You are being asked to take notice of your surroundings because a new opportunity is now being offered to you. She is reminding you that in order to succeed with this opportunity you will have to move forward swiftly so that your new ideas can take flight. Duck is making it very clear that in order to be successful with your goals you have to move now!Alternatively Duck may be reminding you that today is a day that you should spend exploring your emotions. Use her energy to see your own feelings clearly and to navigate your way through them so that they can be released. Use affirmations and gratitude to clear the way.

Message from the Universe: May luck be on your side
I hear the universe whisper: Massive avalanches of abundance and money need to move into the hands of the awakened, the spiritual, the aware – the ones who have the most compassion, so we can bring all manner of beauty, healing and wonder into this world. In this way we can serve each other more and support those that need to be lifted higher. Time to illuminate the old world thinking and expand.
Duck Symbolism: The spiritual meaning of the duck speaks the message – “be in the now, be in the moment, for this is where all of your power exists and is available to you. Duck loves the gentle motion of slow-moving water, drifting along meandering rivers and ponds, this is a powerful message to go with the flow, where the waters take you naturally.”

If you have been feeling a connection with the duck spirit animal lately, this is because you need lessons in protection or emotional comfort. Duck symbolism is closely connected with your emotional state, and it reminds you to glide across the waters of your life with ease and confidence, and to not neglect your emotional needs.
Very interesting indeed, don’t you think? Considering all that is going on in my life right now, a lot of what is said above makes sense to me. I’m not sure about the massive avalanches of abundance and money but wouldn’t that be nice!
As lovely as our duck family are, we knew they couldn’t stay with us forever. It’s Wednesday morning and pouring with rain as I type this and only a couple of hours ago we watched as mother duck led her nine baby ducks out of our property and waddled off down our street in search of their next home. We have everything crossed in the hope they travel safely and have long and happy lives ahead of them.
Here are some short video’s of our duck family that I have shared recently on Instagram. The most recent at the top.
Has the Universe sent you something that you’ve needed lately? Do you believe in symbolism?

I love that symbolism & trust believe that some things are there for a reason – like these ducklings. May they grow to hatch their own ducklings and bring peace to someone else. xoxoxo
That’s such a lovely thought and thing to say … “May they grow to hatch their own ducklings and bring peace to someone else.” Thanks Jo! xo
What a lovely message and distraction the universe sent you with these cute little ducklings! I do believe in symbolism.
Take care of yourself during these tough times for you and your family Min!

It was lovely – thank you Ingrid. xo
You watch the Sporanos? That’s how it opens…I saw on twitter your ducks moved on. Was glad to read the full story.
Sporano’s or Soprano’s? Haven’t seen either! Yes, ducks have moved on and haven’t returned.
I do believe in coincidences and I feel that this mother duck and ducklings arrived at your swimming pool for a reason. A beautiful distraction maybe or a show of nurturing and how you need nurturing during this difficult time. The universe works in an amazing way. Take care. #TeamLovinLife
The universe sure does work in mysterious ways Kathy. I like to believe it was a show of nurturing. I have needed that. Still do. It’s very hard at the moment. Thank you! xo
What a beautiful post Min and I know that life is pretty tough for you at the moment. I found your information about ducks and their meaning very interesting., especially the part about being in the moment and emotional comfort which is what you need right now with all the worry you have. Sending you hugs and thinking of you. xx
Thanks for all your lovely words Sue. Those ducks did provide some emotional comfort and it sure is needed at the moment. I’m lucky to have a lovely close family and good friends, including my online blogging buddies like yourself. xo
What a cute little family you’ve been getting to watch 🙂
They were adorable!
It’s so lovely that they visited and also lovely that they decided to relocate before the ducklings got really big and there was an avalanche of duck poo! I’m glad that brightened your days and gave you something to smile about xx
They did give me something to smile about … at a very difficult time. The universe works in mysterious ways! xo
nature has an amazing way of drawing us in and enabling us to be more mindful for a while. Giving us the chance to stop the thoughts that are spinning around in our head and give us a much needed moment to recharge. Fingers crossed you have lots of these little gems from nature, while you are going through such a tough time.
Nature always helps me during tough times. When it all boils down to it … it’s the simplest things in life that are most important treasures. xo
So sorry things are tough for you at the moment and know that they’ll probably get worse before they get better… or at least you all start to feel better.
But what a blessing the ducks were. I can’t even really fathom where they come from. Mind you we have peacocks somewhere near where I live and of course there are often bush turkeys in the middle of suburbia.
Take care… x
Things got worse … but yet my experience has been a beautiful privilege and I am very comforted by that. xo
I wouldn’t have thought about looking up the symbolism but I love that you did. It is great to find the good in the little things.
It just came to me one day – and so I followed my curiosity. Glad I did! 🙂
I think it helps to believe these ducks are there to help you through this time!
How wonderful….
XOXO

They helped at the right time and then they left at the right time. Spooky but special! 🙂 xo
Mother duck and her babies have done a great job in providing a pleasant distraction, just when you needed it Min. I do believe in symbolism. My Dad did too and used to say he’d let us know when he was watching over us. I’ve been getting lots of feathers and coins in my path lately, which I suspect may be him letting me know he’s around. Sending lots of love to you. Take care xox
I hope my Dad will leave me some little signs that he is around. I asked him to. I’ll be keeping a look out. Thanks Lyndall. xoxo
I do know that these ducks meant so very much to you and it was a delight to see your updates..,.and then they moved on. They moved on as they needed to and that was right. I do believe in symbols and signs and often take a white cockatoo flying near by or a white feather on the ground that is it my late Mum keeping an eye on me. Love to you dear Min xx
I believe in symbols and signs even more so now. Those ducks came at the right time and left at the right time. I do hope my Dad will leave me a little sign that he is still around and watching over me. Thank you Denyse! xo
There’s something so incredibly heartwarming about seeing a mother and her ducklings. I live near a large lake, and you can quite often see a mother and her ducklings scrambling across the road to get to it – it never fails to cheer me up, regardless of what kind of day I’m having 🙂
I’m so sorry to read that you’re having such a tough time 🙁 Take good care of yourself, and your family (which it sounds like you’re definitely already doing – you have my respect!), and I hope things improve soon.
They were so beautiful to watch. The mother duck is committed and devoted to her babies and the babies so adoring and obedient of their mother. xo
