ART CHAT #22

DAY 10 – GLENORCHY (NEW ZEALAND)

22 May 2023

Today we took a day trip from Queenstown to Glenorchy. Glenorchy is a small settlement at the northern end of Lake Wakatipu in the South Island region of Otago. It’s about 45 km’s by road and a must visit. It is so beautiful there! See for yourself and learn more about Glenorchy and the day we spent there in this post.

Meanwhile, these are the ink & watercolour sketches in my South Island of NZ travel sketchbook that I’ve done to capture the day. Ahhhh just looking at them makes me want to be back there right now!

Hi Min, Beautiful sketches that must take you awhile to fill in all the details. My favourite is the Glenorchy Lagoon Walkway. Have a wonderful week!

Thanks Natalie! I can sometimes spend a couple of hours over sketches. It depends. Sometimes I walk away from them for a while and come back in a day or two. It’s hard to know how much time I spend on them but not a lot. I haven’t done any art in many many weeks since life has been very busy with Mum. It’s so nice to hear of your favourite. The Glenorchy Lagoon Walkway was so stunning – such a diverse range of scenes along the way. This one was a stand out and why I chose to draw it. It wasn’t the easiest and I wasn’t happy with it at first but it captures my memory so it’s ok. You have a wonderful week too!

Hi Denyse – very nice to see you back here again! Art does bring me peace and joy but I haven’t had time for it for many, many weeks. Life has been very busy for me for some time now as you’d know. I guess I’ll eventually find time for art again but certainly not at the moment. Thanks for linking up! Hope you have a wonderful week xo

Hello (I’m sorry I don’t know your name) and thank you! Glenorchy is gorgeous isn’t it? You have to do the walks to fully appreciate it and a lovely choice of places for coffee & food!

Hi Lydia – thank you! No, I didn’t take a book from the book exchange. I was too busy to read on that holiday!

Thank so much Christie. At this rate I’ll have had several more holidays before I even get the NZ travel sketch book done. I’ve had no time for art in a long time with everything happening with Mum. Hoping I will find some more time in the new year!

Your sketches are just lovely! That is such a wonderful way to record your travels.

Thanks so much Joanne! It’s taking me a while to complete because main priority has been Mum lately and lots going on there. Hoping that in the new year I’ll get some more that travel sketch book done!

I love these sketches Min. Sometimes a picture says more than words. I love the muted colours and the little book exchange. Gorgeous.

Thank you Jennifer! Positive feedback on my sketches is always so lovely to receive, especially as I’m such a harsh self critic!

Such a lovely way to record your travels! Your sketches are wonderful. I’d imagine the sketching would really connect you so much deeper to your experiences. 🙂

Thanks so much Sandra. I think my sketches really help me to see and remember moments in time in so much more detail!

Oh my gosh these sketches are breathtaking! Have you always drawn or is this a new thing? I adore travel sketch books.

    • Reply Min December 18, 2023 at 6:03 pm

Hi Carly – Thank you! I’ve really only discovered art since I left my corporate life and started playing around with it. I did some art mentoring classes where I taste tested different art mediums and found I loved working with watercolour and ink! Life has thrown a few curve balls recently so I haven’t done too much art lately but hopefully soon I can get back into it. I really do enjoy it alot. I need to finish off my NZ Travel Sketch Book too!
