SHOW ‘N’ TELL
Hello there! My last Art Chat Show ‘n’ Tell was on May 23rd and well I’m not gonna lie, I’ve kinda had an AWOL art mojo for a while and also haven’t had much time to devote to my art, so nearly 2 months later there is not much to share! I need loads of time to myself to get in the the ‘zone’ and that has been in short supply of late for various reasons but not to worry – I do have four little creations to share and I’m sure things will pick up again soon.
Urban Sketching
Still very much in urban sketching mode after doing my online urban sketching course, I decided to try sketching something local. I’d done so many beautiful English scenes but longed to do something local and relevant to me. I took a photo of what used to be our local ‘Fish Cafe’ but is now known as ‘Sea Vibes’. I had to take the photo from quite a distance away in order to get everything in so that didn’t allow me to see much detail. It’s ok for a first go at it but I’d like to do it again one day as I know I could do it better.
Scribbles the Sparrow
I felt a pull to go back to drawing an animal of some kind and decided on a little scribble sparrow (hence his name of ‘Scribbles’ the sparrow). I’ve seen a few artists do scribble art and I LOVE it and wanted to have a go at it. It’s so free’ing and I felt very comfortable with this technique. I took the drawing outside to photograph, saw the leaves on the ground, and decided to add those to my picture for my photograph. I quite like the texture and vibe they add!
Macca the Macaque Monkey
I was still wanting to draw/paint an animal. I adore monkeys of all kinds and knew that I’d never drawn a Macaque monkey so that’s what I did and I can tick that one off the list now!
Cherry Blossom Inspired Watercolour painting
My art mojo has been AWOL since Macca and so I wanted to do something that was relaxing and different to what I’d done for a while. I decided to do a painting (no drawing). It’s my dab, dab, dot, dot, Cherry Blossom inspired painting done in watercolours. I’m quite happy with it. I love the colours.
And that is all for now. I hope I can get more time for my art again soon and also get that mojo back in good order again!
Which one of the four is your favourite?
Ciao for now,

Hi Min – nice to see that the art hasn’t completely disappeared from your life. The cherry blossoms would have been a fun and relaxing change for you. I’ve still been doing my collages, but less over the last couple of months because I’ve been binge reading a couple of book series and time disappears. I think creating something nourishes our soul and that’s a very good thing indeed.
Hi Leanne, Sorry it’s taken a while to reply. Just home yesterday from another few days at Mum’s. My sister who I alternate care of Mum with has Covid so it’s been tricky! I haven’t done any art since the cherry blossoms and don’t feel relaxed enough yet to do any yet. Hopefully sometime next week I can do something. I binge read a couple of books recently too. Sometimes we need different things and change is good! Hope you and your dodgy hip are doing ok!
Hi Min, Thank you for your weekend coffee share. Your artworks all look beautiful. If I had to choose, it would be the sparrow. I like how you added the leaves. The cherry blossoms are wonderful, too.
Hi Natalie, thank you! It’s so nice to know you like the sparrow and the little touch of adding the leaves. Glad you like the cherry blossoms too. That was something a little different for me and I really quite enjoyed it!
My favorite are the cherry blossoms!
Thank you Julie! I’m quite fond of that one too. It’s different to anything I’ve done before and I really enjoyed doing it!
i like them all, and i love the sparrow, but my fave is the drawing of Sea Vibes We have had several nice lunches when it was the fish cafe, so we must head down that way again to try the new incarnation:-) Hope you’re feeling well. cheers sherry
Thanks so much Sherry and I’m really glad you like the Sea Vibes drawing. I think it helps when you’re familiar with the building! I’m well thanks (touch wood) – hope you are too!
