This year for my birthday I really wanted to find a way to show my appreciation and gratitude to those who support me and what I do here on Write of the Middle. So, I decided on a Birthday Giveaway. I would give away one of my photographs (8″ x 10″) framed, and used the 14 photographs from two recent nature photography challenges as the photographs the winner can choose from.
I decided to ask that entrants share something – a change or adjustment that they’ve made in their day-to-day life that makes time for them, prioritizes them, and is a positive step to looking after themselves.
I did this because I am passionate about encouraging women to ditch guilt (and always putting themselves last) and to prioritize and make time for themselves. They are important too and in fact very important because if they go under, then the wheels fall off the whole running of the family and home! But also it is important to know yourself and care for yourself accordingly.
I also thought it would be nice for entrants to share what it is they do for themselves in order to show that it can be the simplest little tweak or change that can make such an enormous difference to our lives and that there are so many diverse ways that we can better look after ourselves. I certainly got the kind of comments I had hoped for. You can read them here (scroll to the bottom of the post).
Choosing a winner was ridiculously difficult! They all made my heart happy to read. To be honest, I wish I could send a framed photograph to everyone who entered but sadly I’m not rich enough (not even rich at all) so I had to choose one. So whilst, they are all fabulous, I chose this one because it demonstrates an intentional effort of identifying activities that make her happy (looks like a case of taking back up some activities that she used to enjoy pre-kids – yay for that!) and taking back some time for creativity and joy for herself. So the winner is ….
BECK BERGER
“Making time for myself has been a slow process but I’ve started drawing/painting again and I’m loving the time I get to create.”
Congratulations Beck – I’d really love to see some of your drawings and paintings! I see that your favourite photo is Photo No. 1 (the sunrise at Byron Bay). I will be in touch via email to confirm and to get your postal address.

Congratulations Beck and high five to you Min for such a thoughtful and generous giveaway! I guess this is one of those times when it’s just as joyous to give as it is to receive!
