The Kitten Foster Files #2

December 19, 2019

At last my wait is over and I have my first foster kittens. I’m excited to introduce you to Foster Kittens Litter #1!

Upon collection from the RSPCA at Wacol (on Sunday afternoon) I was told that Litter #1 were approximately 4 weeks of age except the black one who was about a week older (approx 5 weeks) but in a similar weight range to the others.  I have 2 cream (the description given by the RSPCA) girls, 1 cream boy, and 1 black boy.  The black boy is a ring in from another litter.  He may have been a single kitten or have had litter mates. I don’t know his background. He is, however, very happy with his new cream litter mates.

These kittens are classified as ‘late transitionals’ which indicates the stage of weaning they are at. They are no longer on milk replacement bottles. They are offered soaked biscuits (kibble) and dry biscuits. They were also having a soft baby kitten mousse but I have stopped that now because they are all eating the soaked biscuits well and a couple of them are eating the dry biscuits.

I have named them with a Christmas theme:

CREAM GIRLS:  Belle and Holly

CREAM BOY:  Jack (Jack Frost – ok no frost in Australia this time of year but I liked Jack for him)

BLACK BOY:  Nicko (I called him Nick for St Nicholas … but Nicko suits him better cos he’s an active, cheeky but adorable little fella)

I haven’t managed to get any good photos (except the one below and the feature image) of them yet but I have quite a few videos so I’ll share some below.  Please excuse my embarrassing ‘talking to kittens’ voice! The first image and following three videos were taken the morning after I collected them (so Monday morning) when I weighed them for the first time. The final video was taken this morning when they had just woken from a snooze and were all hungry.

Foster Litter

These kittens will be with me until they are each 1kg. They will then be returned to the RSPCA to be desexed and adopted.

To see more of these little cuties keep watch on my Facebook page, my Instagram … but most particularly my Instagram Stories (which also show in my Facebook stories) where you will see the most of them.

Ciao for now,

Adorable Min – and the best size and age for cuteness. Enjoy your Christmas kittens and give them a snuggle from me x

They are extremely cute Leanne and becoming much more affectionate with me each day. The purring is gorgeous too. I’ll be happy to give them snuggles from you! I’ll get straight onto that! xo

I would LOVE to do this!! Wonder if our animal shelter offers a similar foster program. Have fostered lots of kitties that I have found abandoned but have never done this formally. You are a doll! Thank you for saving these sweet lives.

Thank you Leslie! You could always enquire with your local shelter/s and/or rescue organisations. It is my pleasure to foster kittens. I think it’s going to take some getting used to farewelling them when it’s time to return them to be adopted but I guess I will get used to it!
