A half day trip & another birthday!

June 4, 2020

A half day trip & another birthday is what made last weekend a really nice weekend, so I thought I’d share a few photographs from it for #lovinlife this week.

On Saturday afternoon (after lunch), the tennis player and I decided to hit the road to combat a serious case of cabin fever.  Next time we need to be more organised and do a whole day trip.  That way we could incorporate a bush walk, lunch and more perusing of shops!  We headed to Mt Nebo, Mt Glorious, and Samford.  It was fabulous to get out of the house, to see some countryside, grab a coffee, and we even managed a taste of wizardry with a visit to The Store of Requirement in Samford (got there 30 mins before it was due to shut).  Are you a Harry Potter fan?  I am – love it all!

The next day, on 31 May, I turned 56.  Yes, it was my birthday!  I can no longer say I’m in my early 50’s.  I may get away with mid-50’s?  What do you think?  But, essentially I’m now in the second half of my 50’s and on the slippery slope to 60.  It’s kind of surreal because in my mind I am still mid-30’s but my body tells me otherwise!  There are really good things about being this age, but I’m not gonna lie – there’s quite a few not so great things about being this age too.  You’ll probably hear more on those things in future posts!  I’m not complaining though because I am very grateful that I have got to this age and am always aware that many others have not been so lucky.

For my birthday this year we had to do things in shifts due to Covid-19 restrictions.  I had brekky at home with the family and then lunch at one of my sister’s houses with Mum, all four of my siblings and special guest – my fur nephew Rudi the toy poodle.  They put on a really lovely high tea style lunch for me which was gorgeous as you’ll see in the photographs.  I then had dinner & cake at home with the family after which I was so tuckered out I headed to bed a little earlier than usual.

Here’s some photo’s from my weekend.  Apologies if you’ve seen these all before on either Instagram or Facebook and apologies also cos most of my photos from the drive on Saturday afternoon are not nature or landscape shots (as we were mostly driving and I wanted to drink it all in) but were instead of The Store of Requirement!  The excited child within me was stirred when we went to this place. As I said earlier, I love all things Harry Potter.  Loved the books.  Loved the movies, and LOVED the Harry Potter and the Cursed Child theatre production I went to in June last year with my daughter.  I just love the whole HP world created by J.K. Rowling.  How clever is she?!

Cafe in the Mountains, Mt Nebo. This is where we grabbed a takeaway coffee and it was really good coffee too!

Mount Glorious Community Hall. The only photo I took at Mt Glorious as we weren’t there long. We headed to Samford in order to see The Store of Requirement before it closed.

Have you been to Mount Nebo, Mount Glorious or Samford?  If you live in Brisbane, this is a really great day trip! How good was my birthday high tea? Mum and  my sisters did such a fabulous job!  The yellow roses were from my brother.  Yellow roses apparently represent friendship, joy and caring.

Ciao for now,

Happy birthday, Min! I’m a few days late but I didn’t know until I read your post. Glad you had a nice outing, and a beautiful birthday high tea. The cake looks delish and who can resist roses? If you’re a HP fan, have you listened to readings of HP The Philosopher’s Stone (or Sorcerer’s Stone in some countries) at https://www.wizardingworld.com/ Check it out. I listened to chapters 1 to 8 at present and enjoyed the readings by several famous actors and actresses. Have a wonderful week! #lovin’lifelinky

Happy Birthday! I’ve never been to these towns so am bookmarking this for when we do. I have to visit the Store of Requirements!

Thanks Jo! I think you’d love a trip up to Mt Nebo, Mt Glorious and then down to Stamford (all part of D’Aguilar National Park). A good day would be a bushwalk, maybe a picnic lunch (or lunch at a cafe), a wander around the shops and The Store of Requirement in Stamford and coffee here and there of course! Apparently there is a cafe attached to The Store of Requirements but it was closed up when we were there (I guess because of Covid).

Happy birthday! I’m a bit scared of the ‘mount’ driving but one day maybe!!

Thanks Vanessa! It’s not a scary and overly windy ‘mount’ drive. I’ve often been up that way for a bushwalk at Jolly’s Lookout and then a picnic after. It’s so nice up there! xo
