I know I don’t usually blog on a Saturday but ex tropical cyclone Marcia (now thankfully a low pressure system and no longer a cyclone) has just passed over us here in Brisbane dumping oodles of heavy rainfall. It is still raining but it seems that the worst of it is over now.
I don’t know about you but the word Marcia immediately makes me think of Marcia from The Brady Bunch. Maybe it is my age or maybe it is because Maureen McCormick who played Marcia in The Brady Bunch is currently on our TV each evening in ‘I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here’? Anyway – anyone who is or was a Brady Bunch fan will understand the ‘Marcia, Marcia, Marcia’ reference! As a kid, I loved that show. I used to brush my hair for 100 strokes just like Marcia did. As a young girl, I adored Marcia! Anyway – I digress!!
Most people would curl up with a coffee and a good book on a day like today but not me! I grabbed the camera and tried to grab a souvenir of Marcia’s presence. I was under the roof of the back pergola area but still got wet as the rain was fast and furious and coming in under the roof horizontally. I was more concerned about my camera getting wet than me to be honest, so I snapped away very quickly. As a result these are not the greatest of photographs but I got the memento of Marcia I was after!
Say hello to the last dregs of Marcia as she passed over WOTM headquarters. She’ll be at the Gold Coast now and then she will disappear out to sea never to be seen again. We hope!
Thoughts are with our northern friends up around Yeppoon, Rockhampton and nearby areas that were affected by Marcia in her full cyclonic form!
Ciao for now,
This post was published on a Saturday but is linked up today with My Little Drummer Boys for #WordlessWednesday
In order to still post today, I shook things up and did something a little different. Please pop over and also read today’s post ‘All about that bag‘!

I absolutely love your first photo! It’s so emotive – makes me feel so many things. It’s the opposite weather down here in Melbourne today (35 degrees) – drinking lots of iced tea. hehe. Keep safe! PS. I love the Brady Bunch.
Hi Min, the last three are my favourites, especially photo four with the steady trickle of water off the plant. Its 38 Centigrade outside my door here in Geelong. I hope the rivers and creeks around Brisbane don’t flood too badly. I was listening to the Bureau of Meteorology on the ABC this morning, they were reporting huge rainfall figures of over 200mm’s in the areas where Marcia made landfall and around Yeppon.
Stay safe
Hi Patrick – glad you like the photo’s – thank you! Strange that it’s so hot where you are in Victoria and cool and wet here in Brisbane! The Brisbane river is fine – no flooding from it because Wivenhoe damn was not full to capacity – but there have been quite a few localised creeks that have flooded. We’re high and dry where we are thankfully! Yeppoon and Rocky have taken the brunt of Marcia when usually they just get the rains. It’s been a very strange weather incident!
The weather / climate is changing everywhere. We are getting much more humidity than we used to here in the past.
I sent you a direct email as well.
Ciao for now,
Patrick
Climate change is so evident isn’t it Patrick! The weather pattern is so different to when I was a child. Our summers are longer and hotter. Our winters here in Brisbane are milder. I remember on my birthday in May, as a child, being rugged up in knitted jumpers. On my birthday these days I could be wearing a t-shirt. Thanks for the mail. I have responded!
Yes thanks I received it. I hope the weather is a bit calmer up there now.
Love the photo of the rain in the pool. Although it makes me wish I had a pool!
I keep thinking Marcia Marcia Marcia too. Our street was flooded for a day, but the house was ok. Id hate to be in the actual cyclone like they were up north. Flooding is bad enough for me.
Thanks Toni! I love having a pool but then I don’t maintain it – my hubby does and boy he spends a lot of time at it! lol We were very lucky here in Brisbane – just getting Marcia in her low pressure form. I really feel for those in Yeppoon and Rocky who got her in her Cat 5 cyclonic form causing loads of damage – and many of them are still without power today!
So pleased Marcia Marcia Marcia wasn’t as devastating as they predicted! Our Chelsea is in Gladstone and we were on tender hooks waiting to see how she and her bub faired. Phew!
Love the tree dripping water photo.

I’m pleased Marcia, Marcia, Marcia didn’t bring too much damage to Brisbane parts. Not so good for Yeppoon, Rocky and other areas up north. I’m so glad your Chelsea & her bub are safe and well. I know how it is to worry. My daughter was out driving all over the Brisbane over the weekend. I was beside myself with worry as it poured rain and the news kept saying to stay off roads and how many roads were flooded. God it can be tough being a parent sometimes!!! 😉
SO MUCH RAIN! Glad it’s over but the lawns are HUGE! x
Our lawns are HUGE too! Must get the tennis player to mow next weekend – IF IT DOESN’T RAIN AGAIN!! 😉 x
They’re great photos Min. I love the dripping tree photo too.
Thanks Alicia 🙂 x
