I must confess that one of my worst habits is a side effect of being a Gemini – I get bored easily. I was bored with the logo/blog header I’ve had since launching this blog in November 2014. I was craving change. The girl with the camera around her neck, a daisy in her hair and two Cavalier King Charles Spaniels on leads (see below) was never quite what I had visualised but I accepted her and got used to her, even though she never really looked a thing like me!
One of my dogs, Chelsea, passed away in May this year, so it was time for the girl with the two dogs on leads to be archived away and a new logo to take her place. I don’t like clutter or noisy-bright-jarring colours that hurt your eyes, so I decided that I wanted something simple and calming – some hand lettering/calligraphy with a subtle nature element to reflect my love of nature. No distracting colour. No pictures. Simple. Understated. Elegant.
So that is what I got … and here they are. I say ‘they’ because I have two versions. The one for here on the blog as a header and another to use on social media.
Notice that the ‘nature element’ – the little wisp of leaves – is on the ‘right of the middle’ of the WOTM text. I like that little play on the words – don’t you? By the way, if you’re wondering what the meaning is behind the name of ‘Write of the Middle’ you can find out on my About page (scroll down a bit and it is all explained).
So what do you think? Like the new look? Hope so cos I sure do!
A huge thank you to Melinda Cooper who is the creative talent behind the new look. She was incredibly patient with me and so quick, efficient and reliable (love reliable people)! Melinda was an absolute pleasure to work with and such a nice person! Here’s where you can see more of her work:

Ciao for now,
P.S. I am having issues with the mobile phone version of this blog’s theme. It cuts off the header and looks terrible. If I can’t rectify the problem, it looks like I will have to change themes – so more change may be ahead!

Love it Min! Also lovin’ your profile pic as well. GO you!
Thanks Leanne! A change is as good as a holiday 🙂
Good for you! Except bad for you because now I feel pressure to do the same…been thinking about it for forever but too lazy…and probably still too lazy. They look great tho!
Haha – know what you mean. It’s taken me awhile. I’m now pouring over blog themes trying to decide. Yep I have to change!
Looks fabulous. Hope you can sort the issues with the mobile version of your blog theme.
Thanks Raych – only solution is to change themes. I’m currently pouring over a zillion trying to decide!
I know what you mean about changes. I made some this year and my blog designer friend (who did this for the first time for me!) was able to make images that fitted in whatever place they went. I did not have to change the blog theme. So, it’s about adjusting the sizes and I am sure your friend will now. I LIKE your new directions!
Thanks Denyse – my current theme only likes teeny tiny blog banner images or else it cuts them off on mobile devices, and I like bold and beautiful so we have to part ways! It’s not me it’s him! haha I am in the process of trying to choose a new theme. 🙂
Looks fantastic, Min. I keep thinking I should completely change my blog and switch to WordPress, but I have no idea how to do it, so I just keep plodding on with my dodgy looking blog. Your profile pic looks great too.
Thanks Ness! If you decide to change to WordPress I’d get someone who knows how to do it all for you – far less stressful! Nothing dodgy about your blog anyway! Glad you like my profile pic. I think I look a bit weird in it but it’ll do!
Love the new logo 🙂
Yay – thank you Vanessa. 🙂
I love the simplicity! It goes well with the rest of your blog outlay. I recently changed my header too. I’d had the same one for about 4 years and it was time for something different.
Glad you like it Tegan! It’s refreshing to have a change isn’t it? 🙂
It looks great Min! I love a clean look and the font used is also striking yet reminds me of handwriting, so it’s personal. I hope you can sort out your theme without having to do too much mucking around!
Hi Kirsty, the lettering actually is my hand-writing so it’s personal and unique to Min 🙂
Thanks Kirsty – glad you like it! It reminds you of handwriting because it actually IS handwriting (as Melinda has told you I see)! I specifically wanted hand lettering/calligraphy (not a generic font) that was personal and unique for me and my blog. 🙂
I heartily approve – it looks great x
Yay – thank you! 🙂 x
I’m so happy we went with the two different versions, they’re both perfect for their different platforms. It was so much fun to work on this with you and even better to come out of it with a new blogging/internet friend 🙂
I’m glad we went with the two versions too Melinda and I totally agree – fabulous to have found you and made a new friend. I miss our emails already! lol xo
Lovely header/logo. I did like your old one too but I get what you’re saying about getting bored sometimes and needing change. Plus when you start to change in small ways, you want your blog to represent that. 🙂
Thanks Sanch! My old header/logo will always have a place in my heart but it felt a bit too girly for me. This new one feels a much better fit 🙂
Hello, just wanted to say quickly how much I love the simplicity of your logo/header. Also the theme you are using works very well. Mine feels cluttered now!
Thanks so much for the feedback Seana – it’s much appreciated. So glad you like the logo/header. Simplicity was what I was after and I love calligraphy and nature so it’s worked out very well. Melinda is so talented! Glad you like the theme too – that is very new! I needed to change themes because my previous one was chopping off the header when viewed on a mobile device and couldn’t be fixed. It is SO HARD to choose a theme!
It looks really nice – clean, fresh and you Min – I’ve been pretty absent on the blogging front lately hence me missing your redesign (and I’m about to do a redesign and rebrand under yin yang living with a program/s on reYINvention). I might message you about your experience.
Thanks Kathy! Yes I’ve noticed you haven’t been around the blogging traps as much lately. Your redesign sounds exciting! Yes of course – contact me whenever you’d like. xo
