It’s that time again … to take stock! This year I’m taking stock quarterly, so I did so in March and June and will again for the final time this year in December. Has it really been 3 months since I took stock in June?!!
Let’s see how things are in September 2017.
Making: Lists! I need them with my holey middle-aged brain! Lists for lots of things!
Cooking: Trialing new recipes on the nights my daughter comes to dinner. New and exciting meals will entice her more often, yeah?
Drinking: Water and coffee – that’s all I drink really.
Reading: Blog posts, crochet patterns, news stories and stuff! Not enough books though!
Trawling: Pinterest looking for my next crochet project.
Wanting: A beach holiday sometime in February, or maybe March might be better – not as hot.
Looking: Forward to going to Canberra for Floriade with a girlfriend TOMORROW!
Deciding: On what clothes to pack for Canberra. I must learn to travel lighter. I always pack too much!
Wishing: With all my heart that my friend’s cancer hadn’t come back after 7 years of being clear of it.
Enjoying: Being creative and productive – when I am!
Waiting: For tomorrow to hurry up and be here so I can fly away to a new adventure!
Liking: That it will be cooler in Canberra than it is here in Brisbane.
Wondering: How my daughter is going over in India. She is one of 20 UQ (University of Queensland) students selected for a 10 day foreign correspondence trip to Jaipur, India (generously funded by the federal government’s New Colombo Plan).
Loving: The Reformer Pilates classes I am doing with a girlfriend! We started on 14 September and love it!
Pondering: What I simply must do and see in my short time in Perth! Yes – I’m off to Perth in October!
Listening: To the birds and wildlife and sounds of the rainforest when we were up at the Bunya Mountains was the best, most therapeutic sounds ever! I loved it up there and will most definitely be going back again and again.
Considering: Doing another online course of some kind. I have quite a few interests!
Buying: 4 x European pillowcases for the 4 large pillows on my day bed. They were on sale and the first time I’d seen some that would work with the cover fabric on the day bed.
Watching: Rudi (the red toy poodle) for a few days while his Mum (my sister) was away was fun for Ava and I.
Hoping: Good things happen.
Marvelling: At how much work got done in the garden here last weekend. Not sure what possessed me but glad it did because it really needed to be done.
Cringing: At the thought of when summer comes and it’s too hot outside to do all the things out there I wanna do … and being sweaty and gross all the time. Ugh, why does summer in Brisbane have to get so unbearable!
Needing: To do some research on Perth so I can plan what I do in the short time I will be there (for the first time ever)!
Questioning: Decisions. Always second guessing myself. Must.Stop.That!
Smelling: Nothing – same ‘ol (refer all previous Taking Stocks)
Wearing: Shorts again – it has warmed up THAT much here in Brisbane already!
Noticing: That I’m much stronger now and have improved a lot since surgery in mid-June.
Knowing: That it won’t be long and I’ll be needing some aircon on in the house again!
Trouble-shooting: All I can think of is that my passport expired in July so I’m in the process of a Passport Renewal Application! Must be overseas travel ready!!
Thinking: Too much – always so much on my mind. Need to get back into regular meditation to slow the monkey mind down!
Admiring: My first ever crochet blanket in at least 25 years!
Getting: To bed way too late lately.
Bookmarking: Like a crazy woman lately – crochet tutorials, places you can buy wool/yard online at good prices, blog post ideas, you name it!
Opening: Another packet of Rye Cruskits most likely. I love those things!
Closing: A heap of windows. I always have too many open. Browser windows not housey windows! haha
Feeling: Excited about my few days away in Canberra and ALSO the upcoming trip to Perth (next month)!
Dreaming: Of a little cottage tucked away in a snowy forest up in some beautiful mountains and me being in it of course with a gorgeous fire roaring away in a fireplace!
Hearing: The snores of my beautiful Ava who is sleeping.
Celebrating: My sister’s birthday on 12 September.
Pretending: That we are not getting closer to Christmas time. I tend to get a wee bit stressed at Christmas time. So many gifts to buy. So much money being spent and it’s always sooooo hot!!
Embracing: Spring (but secretly or not so secretly dreading summer) if we get one!
You didn’t notice that I accidentally used the same photo twice in those three collages did you? No, neither did I! Next Taking Stock post will be in December. If you’d like to take stock, pop on over to Pip’s at Meet me at Mikes for the prompt words to cut and paste!
Ciao for now

I so enjoyed reading your long list Min! I’m a list girl too. Great idea to use your daughter’s dinner visit to try a new recipe and my friend who I run with swears by Pilates. I’ve not tried Pilates but I should as I think it would help my back. I loved your crochet rug and it is a relaxing hobby. I’d love to visit Perth also so enjoy your time there and I look forward to your posts about it. #TeamLovinLife
Thanks Sue! I’m sure you’ll love Pilates if you try it. I really enjoy it. I’ve done mat Pilates before but never the Reformer Pilates. Love both! π
Yesterday I spent the entire day in short shorts and a singlet. Ugh. And that wasn’t even a heatwave day. I’m dreading this summer and I want to make the most of this spring (if we can keep a grasp on it!).
I’ve been in shorts every day for the last week or so! I’m not a fan of Brisbane summers. My garden will suffer again because I find it too hot to garden in the heat of summer. Looking forward to some cooler weather in Canberra tomorrow! Yay! π
I love visiting Floriade. I haven’t been this year yet. I hope you enjoy it!

Thanks Ingrid! I’m sure I’ll love it. Just as I’ll love a few days of not having to cook or clean! π
I enjoyed reading your list, Min. Excellent job creating your crochet blanket. Have a great time in Canberra and Perth!
I’m glad you enjoyed the read Natalie and thank you for the compliment on my crochet blanket! I’m really looking forward to my little trips away. π
A great Taking Stock. I’m with you on the rye cruskits – addicted to those things. Enjoy Floriade – it’s a beautiful time of the year in Canberra. #TeamLovinLife
Thanks Jo! Ahhh rye cruskits – so scrummily delicious! Really looking forward to a change of scenery for a few days! π
I’m doing a taking stock post for tomorrow (end of the month) and it was my first attempt – I only did half a dozen topics – your list was amazing! Also love that you’re coming to Perth – only a couple of hours away from me instead of the other side of the country – hopefully it should have stopped raining by the time you get there!
I remember the first Taking Stock post I ever did. It took me forever!! I found it so difficult. I find it much easier now. Oh you’re so close but yet so far from me when I’m in Perth! You’re still 2 hours away! Oh please send that rain to Brisbane – gee we need it here – it’s so brown and dry!
What a fun post, Min!! Do you not get to talk to your daughter in India?? What an experience….

Thanks Jodie! We’ve communicated in Facebook Messenger but pretty briefly as she is being kept so busy and they are 4.5 hrs behind us. Thank goodness for todays technology so we can keep in touch so easily! She is having the most amazing experience! π xo
Ha ha ha! I’ve done this myself (using the same photo in collages!) I love your taking stock and what you’ve been experiencing and feeling in the past 3 months. This is a great idea for a post. Have a fun time in Canberra and Perth in October. #TeamLovinLife
You have? Oh that makes me feel better! LOL I’m glad you enjoyed my Taking Stock post. SO much has happened over the last 3 months. I’m really looking forward to my couple of trips away. This will be my 2nd time in Canberra. The first time was a long time ago when the kids were all still in primary school and we were only there a couple of days. Perth will be my first time ever! π
Enjoy Floriade, Min! I would love to go one year!
SSG xxx
Thanks SSG. Hopefully I’ll get some nice photos to share in a post after I return so you can visit Floriade vicariously through me! haha xo
I’ve never tried a taking stock post like that, I’ll have to investigate further. Mat pilates is something that i’ve just started doing again, this time from home with a great dvd. Seeing all the machines at reformer classes reminds circuit machines at the gym and that put me off trying it out, but might have to give it ago. Enjoy your trips away to Canberra and Perth.
I think you’d find the Taking Stock posts quite a therapeutic exercise Jenni. I do! Those reformer pilates machines are nothing like the circuit machines at a gym. They’re fabulous! I love them! Give them a go! I got back from Canberra yesterday – got a case of the sads today. It was fabulous! Lovely to have Perth not far away to look forward to! π
Enjoy Floriade Min! I’ve never been – even when I lived in Canberra, but as you know I’m not much into nature. (Self-absorbed sod that I am!)
I hope the weather there is nice and not too cold, though it will be a nice change from here.
I hope you find an online course you enjoy. It’s great to try new things… I really need to do it more.
Floriade was beautiful Deb. Friday was the best though because the crowds were a bit much over the weekend. However, in saying that, I thoroughly enjoyed Nightfest (despite the crowds) which we went to on Saturday night. The weather was cool but only cold when the winds got up. I’m glad I got to wear my coat! The day we left was quite warm though – 22 degrees! It was cooler here in Brisbane when we arrived! Funny! π
