It’s time for my 3rd quarterly ‘Taking Stock’ post for 2018! My first for the year was in March, the second in June. A final Taking Stock post will be done in December.
So, let’s jump straight on in!
Making: Crocheted Bohemian Market Bags to give to relatives as Christmas gifts
Cooking: Healthy but yummy meals
Drinking: Lots of fluids
Reading: About what to see and do along The Great Ocean Road in Victoria
Next read: A book that will sweep me away to another world – I hope!
Wanting: To feel well again
Looking: Forward to flying to Melbourne, hiring a car, and exploring The Great Ocean Road in late November
Playing: Words for Friends on my phone is about all I’ve been playing lately
Deciding: Where to stay, what to do, where to go – Melbourne and Great Ocean Road
Wishing: Summer to not get here too quickly. I like this more comfortable weather we’re having right now.
Enjoying: The fact that I am a BUPA Blog Award 2018 FINALIST in the Personal Category! I know! Who even am I?
Waiting: To feel better and get better!
Liking: … and loving the new paint job in the kitchen and dining rooms (we hired professionals)!
Wondering: How long it will take us to paint the rest of the interior of the house!!
Loving: My new kitchen!
Pondering: The details for the itinerary of our upcoming trip along The Great Ocean Road
Considering: Booking a 15 minute helicopter site-seeing tour at Port Campbell
Buying: Jute and Cotton from Bunnings – great for my crocheting needs of late!
Watching: Just finished watching Season 3 of Outlander on Netflix. Isn’t it so awful when you watch the final episode and you know it’ll be ages till the next Season is on Netflix!
Next watch: I’m watching The Block and The Bachelor lately while I crochet. I like a bit of light entertainment, though both can be frustrating and annoying at times!
Hoping: That Twin 2 has some good luck go his way very soon
Marvelling: At my daughter’s confidence and independence. She’s far more confident than I was at her age and I’m so happy for her that she is, and proud.
Cringing: At the behaviour of some of the girls on The Bachelor. Is it for real or staged to make good TV? The mind boggles.
Needing: A break … from the usual, a change of scenery, a new adventure!
Questioning: My decisions as usual – for example, I am constantly filling online shopping carts, only to then question my decisions and abandon the carts. I end up buying nothing.
Wearing: Comfy and stylish is my midlife mantra – for clothes and shoes. No suffering for vanity for me anymore.
Following: So many inspiring people on Instagram lately
Worrying: About everything and anything. There’s lots to worry about and I am a worrier it seems! I try to not let my worry affect others though.
Noticing: Today, at this very moment (Tuesday morning), I feel worse (health wise) than yesterday.
Knowing: I may have to make another doctors appointment
(Update: I went to the doctors on Wednesday. Instagram post below provides a bit of an update)
Thinking: About my Dad every single day. Survived Father’s Day. His birthday is next.
Admiring: The other bloggers who are also BUPA Blog Award 2018 finalists. There’s quite a few that I know (they’re well known), and some that are new to me. We’re all different types of people, who blog about different things in different ways but blogging is the commonality that links us together which is kinda nice don’t you think?
Sorting: Through my thoughts and writing lists is my way of helping myself to feel a sense of achievement each day
Getting: Prepared for Christmas by deciding to crochet some bags as gifts (which I’ll put a few goodies in)
Bookmarking: Crochet patterns. I’ve become a bit crochet obsessed!
Coveting: Nothing really – mainly just to feel and be healthy and well again!
Disliking: Being sick for over two weeks – ugh! Health is wealth people!
Opening: A parcel from Hong Kong was such a thrill for me. It was some Hand Made/Painted Bohemian style beads that I ordered from Etsy.
Giggling: Saw a video on Facebook this morning of a puppy throwing a tantrum. It gave me the giggles.
Feeling: Optimistic that this latest doctor visit, tests and stash of drugs will be what finally gets me better!
Snacking: On far too many Butter Menthols while sick. They’re so soothing for my throat!
Hearing: Birds chirping. I love that sound.
So there you go. Lots been going on around here! Hopefully for the next Taking Stock post at the end of December, I will have been well again for quite a long time and have a heap of bohemian style market bags created and ready for Christmas gifts!
By the way. in case you weren’t aware, the Taking Stock concept and word prompts are the brainchild of Pip from Meet Me at Mikes. You can go HERE to grab a blank list of the word prompts to copy & paste and take stock yourself if you’d like to!
How are things with you? What would be the main events of your last couple of months?
Ciao for now,

I’m addicted to word games on my phone at the moment too. Not Words with Friends. I’ve been playing Wordscapes. LOVE! Addicted. #teamlovinlife
PS loving your crocheted bags
I might have to go check out Wordscapes! Glad to hear you like the bags! 🙂
A fabulous round-up. Congratulations on the BUPA awards, loving your bags & absolutely you must book that chopper ride.
Thanks on all counts Jo! Chopper ride booked. Could only afford the 15 minute one but that’ll do nicely anyway. I’ve never been on a chopper before so it’ll be something new to tick off the bucket list!
Congrats on BUPA. That’s brilliant. And go and check out 50 Shades of Age post. I think you want to go there (I’ve no idea if that’s on the Great Ocean Road but looks worth a detour!!)
Thanks Lydia – the being a finalist thing is such a surprise! I checked out Kathy’s post and we will be in that area so it’s very helpful – just as her Great Ocean Road post recently was too! 🙂
Love your taking stock post, Min and you will totally enjoy the Great Ocean Road. You should read Kathy’s post this week which will give you some ideas. My first helicopter flight was over the GOR from Port Campbell and once I got over the initial nerves it was wonderful. I’m trying to crochet the bags but haven’t had time to find the right materials. They are a great idea though and want to make them for my Saturday Sisters as Christmas gifts. I might need your help on some parts of it, though. Have a great week and I do hope you start feeling better soon. xx
Thanks Sue! I’ve read Kathy’s post and it’s so timely, just as her recent Great Ocean Road post was too. We will be in that area and in fact spending a night in Port Fairy! The chopper ride is booked. Another thing I will be able to tick off the bucket list as it will be the first time ever that I will have been in a chopper! I will be nervous!! Get in touch anytime if you need any help with the crochet bags. I think the latest lot of drugs will get me well again. I sure do hope so anyway! 🙂 xo
I hope you get well soon, Min. The crocheted market bags would be lovely gifts. I used to crochet but I’ve put away my needles for a while. #teamlovinlife
Thanks Natalie – hopefully I’ll be on the mend soon! I wanted to give something handmade as gifts this year so hopefully the crocheted market bags will go down well. I only started crocheting again last year – after 25 years or so!!
I love the bags you’re making! Hope you feel better soon.
So glad you like them Amy, and thank you! 🙂
Sending lots of healing prayers and thoughts Min. It’s the worst thing to feel like we have no control over our health even though we seem to be doing everything right!!
XOXO

Thanks so much Jodie. I haven’t felt this sick in a long time. It’s been a bit scary and frustrating. All the usual tricks haven’t been working. However, I am hopefully on the mend now! xoxo
Sending lots of love and TLC post Fathers Day, Min. Do take care.
SSG xxx
Thanks so much SSG xoxo
I am loving the craft you are doing…and certainly think you are very creative. I am sorry you have been so unwell and hope that all comes good soon. You have a great distraction in planning a trip. Each day without your Dad is a reminder of the love you shared. I do not have that with mine, unfortunately, more because of his over bearing ways that can still grate even at 94.
Take care and I hope for sunny days by the pool for you soon.
Denyse x
Thanks Denyse – I’ve actually been too sick for the crochet for a few days. Hoping to get back into it though once I’m feeling better. As well as another lot of antibiotics, I’m on steroids now (Prednisone) and I think that will make all the difference. My Dad – gee I miss him. I think of him all the time. I’m sorry your Dad is a bit over bearing. He is doing very well at 94! Onwards and upwards from here Denyse – I will be well again soon and jetting off on some new adventures! xo
Thanks Min. I am glad you are on the meds to get you fully fit as I know you are looking forward yo your travels. Denyse #MLSTL
I’m much better now Denyse so the last lot of meds did the trick. I’ve since found out though that I’ve had a very serious virus and will take 3 months to fully recover. Explains why I’m so tired all the time!
I would love to learn to crochet, since I’ve been seeing your beautiful work. I think having a hobby is wonderful. Unfortunately I haven’t had much time to do anything for myself lately. I hope you feel better soon.
I find crochet very easy to do and very forgiving. If you make a mistake, it’s easy to fix – not as big a drama as is the case when knitting! You’ve had a busy time lately that’s for sure. Once you’re settled in the new house hopefully you’ll get more time for yourself and to get into a bit of craft! 🙂
What a great catch up Min – so sorry you’re still not well – hopefully this next round of drugs will have you back on your feet again. I loved the Outlander books and have watched bits and pieces of Season 1 and 2 on SBS – Claire and Jaimie are just so well portrayed by the actors they chose! Looking forward to seeing you win the Bupa award and representing all the Midlife bloggers xx
This next round of drugs will hopefully do the trick Leanne. Gee I hope so. I’ve gotta go back for another appointment to get my test results so that will be interesting. I loved the Outlander books too – read them all! I’ve now watched Seasons 1,2 and 3 on Netflix. Jamie was different to the Jamie I had in my head but I’ve got used to him. Haha – I love your optimism about me winning the BUPA award. I think the chances are pretty slim but it doesn’t matter as I feel like a winner to have been selected as a finalist anyway. I am very happy that a midlife blogger is being represented I must say! 🙂 xoxo
Min I’m cheering you on for a win with the awards regardless – and who knows, you might be paving the way for some other Midlifers in years to come. I hope the drugs are doing their magic and you’re feeling a bit better these days xx
#MLSTL and I’ve shared this on my SM 🙂
You’re so kind. Thank you Leanne. I’m feeling much better now but found out today at a follow up appt with the doc that I’ve had a quite serious virus that is putting a lot of people in hospital and that I will take 3 months to fully recover. It explains why by lunchtime I am so tired that I’m basically useless! xo
Being sick is horrible, hope you are back to full strength soon. We are getting our new house fully painted inside before we move it – will make it feel like a new house! So excited for you about the BUPA blog awards- fingers crossed for a win!
I’m a lot better now thanks Janet but went back to the doctors today for a ‘results’ appointment (results from tests I had done) only to discover that I have had a very serious virus that has been putting people in hospital. He says I will take 3 months to fully recover. I’m much better but get so very tired! How exciting about your new house. I think I saw a photo of you standing on an amazing looking deck somewhere. Can’t wait to see more piccies of the new house! As for the BUPA blog awards – wow – what a surprise it has all been! A win is very unlikely but being a finalist truly is enough for me to feel like a winner anyway.
Hi, Mi – Sending you warm get-well wishes across the miles!
#MLSTL
Thanks so much Donna! I think your warm get-well wishes across the miles have made a huge difference because I am much better now! 🙂
I love the idea of the crochet bags. It has been years since I have done crocheting. Now and again I get the urge to knit, a scarf as it doesn’t take much room in my suitcase. Enjoy the Great Ocean Road trip, a beautiful area that we enjoyed years ago. I forgot to put this tag on my previous messages via the link!! I remembered for yours. #MLSTL
It has been around 25 years since I’d crocheted Suzanne. I only started again last year. I’m really looking forward to the Great Ocean Road trip – thank you! 🙂
Thinking of you Min, Fathers Day and birthdays are really painful, I know that very well! Hope you are feeling better soon and back into your normal activities. I did enjoy reading your post and must check where I’m up to with Outlander now that you mention it!! Take care and best of luck for the awards, I’ve voted! #mlstl
Thanks so much Debbie. I know you fully understand. Dad’s birthday is on 1 November. For his last birthday he was in hospital having just had a stroke following surgery for a broken hip following a fall. It all spiraled downhill from there. On a brighter note – how good is Outlander? I read all the books and am thoroughly enjoying watching the series. I am anxiously awaiting Series 4 to come to Netfix now. Thank you so much for voting!
I love to watch TV and knit, and I’ve done my fair share of crocheting through the years, too. Sounds like you have some emotional and physical challenges, but hoping your upcoming trip will be lovely and give you lots to look forward to. #MLSTL
I’ve done some knitting in my day but tend to prefer crochet as it’s more forgiving if you make a mistake and I think I just enjoy it more. Yes a few challenges have been thrown my way over recent times. The trip away will be a lovely change. I’m looking forward to it! 🙂
I love your crocheted bags. I usually only crochet afghans. lol I like this list idea and might have to use it.
Thanks Victoria! I hope you have a go at Taking Stock. I love reading those posts! A link to where you can grab (copy & paste) the blank list of word prompts is provided within this post. It’s actually a process that is harder to do than first thought and quite revealing of oneself when you do it! Have fun! 🙂
