We left Highfield House at Stanley and started heading towards our next stop – Cradle Mountain. We stopped at Burnie for lunch. The weather was shocking. It poured with rain all the way from Stanley to Cradle Mountain. We finally arrived at our accommodation at The Cradle Mountain Hotel. It was late in the afternoon, pouring with rain so there was nothing to do but sit by a fire in the bar/lounge area with a book and drink so that is what we did, well until I got too hot by the fire and went back to the room to read and cool down!
We were very fortunate the next morning that the weather had cleared! We were up early and off to walk around Dove Lake. It’s a 6km walk with quite a mix of terrain covered along the way. We found the walk pretty easy, a little bit more challenging on one side of the lake as compared to the other but overall pretty easy and enjoyable. Here are some of the photo’s that I took as we made our way around Dove Lake.
After the walk we stopped in at Cradle Mountain Lodge for lunch and it was as we were walking there we saw these wombats – mother and baby!

Got that gig with Tassie tourism yet?
Another gorgeous batch of pics.
Hey, is that a new profile picture? Love it!
The gig with Tourism Tassie – OMG I wish!! Thanks Leanne. Yes new profile pic. The previous one was a bit old, this is recent. I’m glad you like it!! 🙂 xo
What a beautiful place – I’d love to take my boys when they are older down to do some of the longer walks.
It’s absolutely gorgeous there Robyna. Tassie is full of amazing places and so many beautiful walks. I highly recommend a visit if you love nature and walking! 🙂 xo
Gosh, how gorgeous and tranquil-looking! Tassie is on our list of holiday places to visit.
It was divine there! My nature loving self was just drinking it all up. Took us a while to get around that lake coz I stopped to take SO many photo’s and just to drink it all in 🙂
Such a beautiful place! We are going to do this side of Tassie on our next trip, looking forward to that after seeing these.
It’s one of those must do things Alicia. You’ll love Cradle Mountain. I want to go back because we only had 1 night there. I’d like a much, much longer stay at Cradle Mountain and time to do much more exploring! 🙂
We didn’t go to Cradle Mountain when we were in Tassie in 2001. I have no idea why … so we will have to go back!
Yes – go back! Cradle Mountain is just gorgeous! We were silly and only had one night there! I want to go back for a much longer stay at Cradle Mountain … for sure!
Lovely photos as usual Min! Such a beautiful place. We did the track around the Lake in June 2010, it was bitterly cold and snowing! Love to visit it again!
Thanks Steph! Oh I would have loved to be there when it was snowing! We were there late April/early May – chilly but no snow. I would love to visit again too, and for a much longer stay next time. xo
Your photos make me wanna go to Tassie so, so bad!!!! I love the ones of the wooden shack on the lake. Beautiful!
Thanks Kylie – they are doing their job then! lol I want to go back there so bad too! The shack is called ‘The Boathouse’. It was incredibly hard to photograph BECAUSE there were so many people around. I had to have the patience of a saint and wait until the right moment where I could get a shot without people in it!!
Such beauty and unsurpassed serenity.
Gorgeous photos too Min.
I missed seeing Cradle Mountain on my recent visit , I have seen it though over 22yrs ago.
Thanks Trish – it’s such a gorgeous spot there. I most definitely want to go back! Hope you get to go back too! I’m sure it’s quite different than 22 years ago! 🙂 xo
