Around this time last year I was in Sydney! I had gone to Sydney to spend the day on the Sun Princess and the night in a really lovely hotel room at the Intercontinental Hotel. I followed that up with a few days staying with my sister. On the evening of Friday 10 June 2016, my sister, niece and nephew came into town and to my hotel room to meet up with me and we went to dinner at Alfredo’s Authentic Italian restaurant. Oh the food was out of this world! We had some home made pasta that was absolutely delicious! The beautiful meal was complimented by the accompanying music provided by a pianist. I highly recommend going for a meal at Alfredo’s. After our delicious dinner, we set off on foot and took in the sights of ‘Vivid’.
What is Vivid Sydney?
Vivid Sydney is where art, technology and commerce intersect. It’s a festival of light, music and ideas. In this post though, I’m focussing on just the ‘light’ aspect. Vivid Light transforms Sydney into a wonderland of ‘light art’ sculptures, innovative light installations and grand-scale projections for all to enjoy – for free! It’s a magical celebration of light-design excellence and the world’s largest outdoor art gallery. Vivid Light engages lighting artists, designers and manufacturers from around Australia and the world to illuminate, interpret and transform Sydneyβs urban spaces through their creative vision.
I didn’t have my camera on me but I did have my phone and managed to capture some snaps and even a couple of video’s. Here is a sample of Vivid Sydney 2016.
Here is the above two pics come to life:
One more video that shows you so much awesome!!
Have you been to Sydney’s Vivid? If you’re in Sydney now and haven’t been before, I highly recommend going somewhere nice for dinner at Circular Quay (but you will need to book in advance!) and then have a wander around and take it all in. It’s a wonderful experience!

Love your pics of Vivid Min. Sydney is such a magnificent city and a fabulous location for this increasingly popular festival π #TeamLovinLife
Thanks Lyndall – I love the circular quay area of Sydney on an ordinary day but to see during Vivid time was very special! π
I love visiting the Vivid lights! They look so amazing! I can’t believe our day on the Sun Princess was a year ago! That was such a wonderful day!

Vivid is amazing isn’t it?! I can’t believe it was a year ago that we had our day on the Sun Princess either! I wish we’d had more time to chat on that day. It was so fast paced and over in a flash! It certainly was a highlight of my 2016! π
Fantastic! I will have to put this event on my Bucket List. I love the light show on the Opera House. #TeamLovinLife
If you haven’t been it is a definite for the bucket list Kathy. Hot tip is to book at a restaurant well in advance if you’re going to incorporate dinner out into the evening. It’s a very popular event! π
Your pics are great. The last 2 years I’ve seen it from the Opera Bar. In 2015 we got right up close at interval during a concert at the Opera House. Just fabulous. #TeamLovinLife
Ahhh the Opera Bar would be that dining area surrounding the Sydney Opera House? That would be a fantastic place to see it from! Wow! Take me next time Jo – especially if there is a concert that we can get up close too – pretty please with my best irresistible smiley face! π
Wow, I so love Vivid. The Opera House was MADE for it…even though Joern Utzon would not have foreseen that. I have been to Vivid twice when we lived in Sydney. One special memory was going with my keen photographer granddaughter and we took a trip on a boat out to Fort Dennison and back to see the show from the water. it sure gets cold though! You captured some amazing shots too.
Seeing the show from the water would be amazing Denyse! I was kind of annoyed that I didn’t have my camera with me but really to take photographs properly I’d have needed all the gear including my tripod and as we were eating at a restaurant first and walking everywhere in crowds it just wasn’t practical for me. The phone did a pretty good job anyway I suppose! xo
I love VIVID – I get out a lot when it’s on…
I love it too! I’d love to go again. Might organise a girlfriend’s weekend away for this time next year maybe! π
I was in Sydney a number of years ago for a holiday and it turns out, that’s when Vivid was on. It was a really nice bonus π
Yes I know the feeling Vanessa! Vivid was a really nice bonus to my trip to Sydney to spend the day on the Sun Princess! π
Wow! Fabulous images that really convey the excitement and colour Min! I’d love to go one year.
Thanks Jo! If you haven’t been you really must put it on your wish list. It’s a magical experience! π
OMG—that’s the coolest thing ever!! I feel like our phones can take such amazing photos any more!! We are so lucky!

The cameras in our phones are doing a pretty good job these days aren’t they?! It’s great too to always have a camera on hand if we want one coz lets face it – we always have our phones with us these days! π
Fantastic pictures as usual Min.
I cant believe that this trip was a year ago. Where has the time gone?
Thanks Patrick! I know – hard to believe that was 12 months ago isn’t it? Time goes way too fast!
I want to see it! I want to see the Opera House sails all lit up! I want to be part of all that colour! I think another visit to Sydney is on my to-do list now and I know what time of the year I’ll be planning to go. Thanks for the gorgeous photos Min – it was the next best thing to being there for this WA gal x
Put it on your bucket list Leanne! You’ll love it – it’s magical to be a part of. Make sure you incorporate a nice dinner out at one of the incredible restaurants around Circular Quay. Glad you enjoyed the photos. π
I would love to be in Sydney for Vivid π
Me too! I want to go again!
I saw Vivid a few years ago and loved it, they’re so clever with what they can do. Great pics too! I ‘m visiting from #TeamLovinLife
They are very clever indeed. It’s such a fabulous thing to witness! π
I had my Vivid debut this year. I only saw the bridge and opera house and all the colour around the harbour. But it was fun!
#teamlovinlife
That’s pretty much what I saw too – though also a bit around the rocks. It was fun indeed! π
