Wordless Wednesday: Summer Reflections

December 3, 2014
pool, reflections

It’s been feeling very much like summer here in Brisbane.  The days have become hot, humid and steamy.  The storms have started up again.  There was a doozy storm the other day.  I’m sure you saw it in the news.  We got hardly anything from it where we are.  A bit of rain, no hail.

Our pedestal fan died last summer and needed replacing.  We forgot about it until it got hot again.  I took a photo of our new pedestal fan.  It’s a really cool silver one with a remote control!  I love the reflections you can see in it.  That’s our family room swirled up in the centre of the fan – chocolate brown leather lounge suite and all.

Pedestal Fan
We have ducted airconditioning but who can afford to run that day and night?  Not us!  We never have it on at night when we are sleeping.  I do have it on at one end of the house (the computer end) during the middle of the day when the heat is at its worst and I’m trying to get work done on the computer.

We are lucky to have a pool.  I love to swim and float in it, but I also love the reflections from the pool and the reflections in the pool.  Here’s a little video I posted on Instagram a while back of some early morning reflections in our family room from the pool.

Both the image of the fan and the reflections in the water are such iconic images of Summer. I’m glad it’s here and to be celebrating these things. I’m glad the big storm last week didn’t bring about too much trouble for you x

Thanks Vicki! I’m not a real lover of summer – much preferring autumn and spring. I think its coz summer in Brisbane can get nasty! Very humid and energy draining. I’m very thankful for my fans, aircon and pool that is for sure! 😉 x

It’s the first time I’ve had a pool and I do love having it. Hubby seems to spend a lot of time dealing with it though. I never realised how much work they were!! 😉 x

I like a fan at night time and the aircon during the day. I also love the images you get from the pool. I love that I look over it from the kitchen window.

Thanks Annaleis – I like the fan at night and the aircon during the day too. The pool is actually looked out on from the family room – though you can see it from the kitchen window 🙂 x

The reflections photo is beautiful. I’m the same with air con. I don’t use it much and my electricity bill is still exorbitant! I didn’t use it all winter and only put it on when really desperate in summer for an hour or so at a time. Having said that I get a lovely breeze. I wouldn’t mind getting a ceiling fan put in my lounge area but wiring is a problem so I’ve been thinking of getting a pedestal fan of some sort!

Thanks Deb! Such a shame the aircon makes the electricity bill HUGE isn’t it!! We didn’t use ours in winter either. It never gets cold enough to warrant it really. We’ve got ceiling fans in all bedrooms. They’re great but geez they are ugly! I’d much rather have a lovely light fitting to be honest. The pedestal fan is used out in the family room where the main TV is. Yes you’d be lucky where you are with the breezes. If I were you – I’d get myself a pedestal fan. They’re great and can be put away when not needed. 🙂

I’m dreading summer, we only have the one dodgy air conditioner in our formal lounge. I’ve perfected a way to try and keep the house cool but it only lasts so long. Can’t wait to we sell our NSW property and can build over here in Perth. Although, like you I don’t think we will be able to run the air con day & night.

Oh Em Gee – it is so good to find someone else who dreads summer!! LOL People usually think I’m weird! I just don’t cope well with it. It saps my energy and makes me look and feel ugly! Perth gets quite hot you know Raychael. I say crank the aircon during the day, use fans at night 😉 x

I can just imagine sitting back and taking in those reflections, on a summers day. We had a stormy day yesterday, thunder, lightning and rain. I loved it.

I adore reflections and different light! 🙂 There’s supposedly lots more storms coming our way!

Ta Steph! I love reflections and there are so many different types – and they differ depending on the time of day 🙂
